We’re proud to have been asked by Plan UK to be on the judging panel for their new competition, Blog 4 Girls.
Plan UK works to improve the lot of children worldwide, with a particular focus on promoting the rights, health and education of adolescent girls. Through campaigns like Because I Am A Girl they aim to transform lives of girls in some of the world’s poorest communities, using education to create more equal societies and help break the cycle of poverty.
Launching in May 2011 and running for the whole month, the blogging competition is designed to reach out and engage bloggers on the subject of girls’ education and raise awareness of the charity’s work. Bloggers will be encouraged to use their voice to support girls to get the education they need to move themselves from a life of poverty to a future with opportunity.
Blog post theme: Exploring how poverty affects girls and their education in the developing world
The prize: a 5-day trip to Plan Ethiopia in Africa to visit some of their projects first-hand! They will have the opportunity to see Plan’s work and meet some of the communities they work with. They’ll also do a daily video diary during the trip and upon returning to the UK, write a blog post about their experience.
Two runners up will receive £30 worth of books from Random House.
How to enter: The competition launches on 4th May 2011. For more information visit the Plan UK website and follow Plan UK on Facebook and Twitter. The hashtag for discussion of the competition is #blog4girls.
And if you know someone who is a great writer and has a keen interest in international development and improving the life chances of girls worldwide, let them know about the competition too!
